Highfield Level 3 Award in Education and Training (EATs)
EATs is an RQF qualification (RQF stands for Regulated Qualifications Framework) which replaced the Highfield Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) qualification.
More info about RQF qualifications can be found on https://www.gov.uk/find-a-regulated-qualification
Who is the qualification for?
-
Individuals who would like to or already have been working in the teaching sector (including Further Education college, for Independent Training Providers or Local Authorities), but have not got a formal qualification or knowledge.
-
Individuals currently working as assessors who wish to achieve a qualification that provides an introduction to teaching.
How are you going to be assessed?
-
There is no formal exam, however, you will be putting together a portfolio of evidence. A range of tasks that you will need to complete, will give you the confidence to apply in practice things that you have learnt during the course.
-
You will also complete a micro teach session in front of your peers, putting a session plan together and delivering a short (about 20 minutes). In addition, you will be observing your peers’ micro teaches, providing them with your valuable and supportive feedback.
-
At every stage of your assessment you are going to receive as much support and encouragement as you need to make you feel confident.
NEW: Highfield Level 3 Award in Delivering Training (RQF)
Who is this qualification for?
This qualification provides a good basis to help learners get a ‘foot first’ into training. It is mainly aimed at those who will use pre-prepared training materials to effectively deliver training within the workplace, as opposed to a professional training qualification (such as education and training), which is more focused on procedures, protocol and regulatory requirements.
It is a practical qualification suitable for new and experienced trainers (external and internal) who wish to improve their classroom skills and obtain a training qualification that will also enable them to deliver regulated qualifications.
Assessment method
This qualification is assessed by a practical assessment and a self-evaluation report. Learners will need to practically demonstrate the delivery of either 1 micro-teaching session of 30 minutes.

Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs
We will be looking at a pyramid that works from the bottom upwards. Starting at the base we move through Physiological, then Safety, Belonging, Esteem and Self-Actualisation Needs that we all experience and must address, if we want our teaching/learning to turn into a successful and enjoyable experience.
What might look or sound complex when reading the pyramid at first, will become clearer when we ponder upon and try to answer some more practical questions.
Is it possible to feel relaxed and ready to concentrate when one feels hungry, thirsty, needs the toilet or is awaiting an important phone call? How likely is it that someone will share their ideas in a group that they feel uncomfortable with? Will they get these incredible ideas if they think that whatever they say will sound silly? Will they make links between teaching concepts and what is going on in their workplace if they don’t enjoy their learning experience?
The Teaching Cycle
We will be asking what exactly “teaching” consists of! Is it standing in front of a group and doing the teaching? Or maybe there is more to it! What can we, as teachers, do to make teaching and learning more appealing, effective, and interesting? We will be focusing on our learners and their potential needs; this will then inform how we plan and deliver our sessions. We will be asking; how can I be sure that people learn what I teach? This will lead us into discussing Assessment of learners’ knowledge and skills to ensure that learning is taking place. Finally, we will be looking at ourselves as teachers, trying to understand how we act and behave when we teach and how we can use this to our advantage.
Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion
We will be considering how to treat our learners equally, but at the same time appreciate individual differences in them. We will come up with ideas of how to utilize these two E+D to meet our learners’ needs in an Inclusive learning environment.
